  • HDTV and title safe 10-20%?

    Hi,
I was hoping some folks could enlighten me as to any differences allowed in describing title and action safe area for HDTV formats. It seems a designer may be able to use more horizontal and vetical room in HDTV as opposed to the old SD NTSC analog 10-20% title safe that is the default safe-grid in After Effects, Flame and other compositing/design systems.

Wouldn’t HD formats allow more room for type since it’s a digital format less likely to arbitrarily crop and shift the picture on a consumer plasma or LCD set? Do CRT HD sets threaten to crop similar to consumer NTSC tv sets?

Is there an NAB white paper regarding this anywhere?

    Thanks!

Funny that no one replied to this. I’m wondering the same thing.
