Hi, its been a while since I had to rely on the physical render but now I have to use it. I tried my simple setup, creating a sky with a texture (only luminance ticked) with a HDRI image as a material. The sky has a render tag to not be visible for cameras, only rays and GI (strangely, being only visible for GI doesnt do anything, rays HAS to be checked?) GI is activated in physical render settings and automatic light is off but the result looks like utter garbage. Whats strange, when I go into the Illumination settings of my HDRI material and crank up the GI strength under “generate” to something ridiculus like 10000% there is no effect on the render at all, as if GI wasnt even activated and all Im seeing is the normal reflection. When its calculating the GI I can see from the light maps (those little white dots before the beauty pass is calculated) that hes referencing my cranked up values, but the render is straightup ignoring them. Am I missing something?

Okay even increasing the intensity in the GI settings does nothing, wtf is going on? Ive attached a screenshot to better illustrate what I mean

Okay, Im a step closer now. It seems that the problem was using a PBR material on my object, with regular materials the GI works just fine. So whats the workflow now to get PBR materials lit up by HDRI images, or is this simply not possible since luminance channel is not physically acurate?

Can you share a project file where you’re seeing this issue? I’ve never had a problem like you’re describing.
