HDR ‘Dirty’ Shadows
I have a scene using HDR. The shadows are making certain areas look like they are dirty, rather than smooth. I read somewhere a long time ago how to avoid that, but it escapes me.

After further research, I answered my own question. In case anyone wants to know:
from Maxon’s help:
“If you notice artefacts in the rendered image such as dark patches, gradually increase the values for Accuracy and Max Resolution. The artefacts should disappear once the values are sufficiently high.”
The maximum resolution in my global illumination settings was too low (in this case 300). So, by cranking it up to 1500, it made those blobs smaller, or a higher resolution.
