  • HDMI vs Component on MXO

I’ve decided to purchase the Matrox MXO for outputting HD material. I’d like the video to run to two separate devices – an Apple Cinema Display (for color correction) and a 42″ plasma (for client screenings). The plasma tv is in another room and will require a cable of about 35′.

I’m a little confused on what cables to buy to hook all this up. Is it possible to go from the DVI out on the MXO to HDMI on the plasma? What other connections would work? Could somebody point me to quality cables that will work for this purpose. Thanks!

Well, you are already using your DVI out to the ACD…so all that is left really is the Component connection.

Gotcha. But I’m having a difficult time figuring out the component cables. Are they BNC on one side and RCA on the other? Maybe you could point me to a link on B&H for the appropriate cables? Sorry to be a pain.

Also, will I notice any quality loss using component as opposed to HDMI?

    Thanks,

[Renny McCauley] “Are they BNC on one side and RCA on the other?”

Just get a BNC component cable and then BNC>RCA adapters for the TV.

No…I don’t have time to research for you…sorry. I can take 2 min to type an answer but not 10 min to dig for you.

Yes…but slight. Not really anything to be bothered with, as this is a CLIENT monitor. But HDMI won’t work with the MXO. It sents out a 1920×1200 signal meant for computer monitors. HDTVs are 1920×1080, so they won’t work. If you wanted HDMI you need the MXO 2…but then that doesn’t do DVI to the ACD. So you are limited to Component which is just fine.

You need to to get BNC to RCA or RCA to BNC adapters such as one or the other of these:.

They are available at any good video store that sells HD TVs, monitors, NLEs, etc.
