HDMI capture card for Mac Dual 2.7 Power PC G5
Posted by John Forsen on December 11, 2007 at 12:52 amDoes anyone make a card for my Power PC G5 that will handle HDMI out of my Sony HDV deck for Final Cut?

December 11, 2007 at 12:59 amSorry, it doesn’t exist. The only card that does HDMI is the BM Intensity card and that is PCI-e, not PCI-x, which would be what you need for your G5.

December 11, 2007 at 3:28 amWell, hold on. You can get an HDMI to SDI converter then use that with a Kona3x or Kona LH or any other PCI-X capture card.
This is one brand of converters:

Are there confirmed reports that the IOHD will work with a non Intel Mac. Last I heard AJA was was saying Intel Mac only.

Thats what i thought, so unfortunately it will not be a solution for JohnForsen here.

December 11, 2007 at 5:10 pmEven that setup is less than a new Mac with an decklink intensity and it will give you much more options in the future.
If you want to go cheaper, you can get the convergent box with a cheapo decklink card and be just fine.

December 11, 2007 at 5:41 pmThanks everyone
I emailed AJA tech support and they don’t have a solution for G5
Black Magic has their Multi Bridge, but I was hoping for a under $500 solution.
I’ll continue using Firewire until I get a new Mac sometime next year

December 11, 2007 at 6:35 pmYeah, $500 probably won’t do it if you don’t have a capture card already.
