HDMI 14 bit RAW recording device w/Sony A99: Black Magic Hyperdeck Shuttle 2 or not?
I’m considering purchasing a Sony A99, which reportedly has 14-bit RAW HDMI output.
Question: Will the Black Magic Hyperdeck Shuttle 2 record 12+ bit RAW video output from the Sony A99 camera? in a format I can use on a PC?
I was planning to buy a Black Magic cinema camera; which records to 12 bit RAW cinema DNG files. I can’t use ProRes and I’m not currently an Avid user; I’ve been using Adobe After Effects a few years now.
IF I can record 14 bit video from a full-frame Sony chip.. and with a camera that reportedly has a price tag around $2800, I might consider getting the A99 + external recorder.
The BM Hyperdeck Shuttle has an attractive price tag of $330 currently.
Are there any other problems I’m not seeing here with using an external HDMI recorder? (besides, battery life & memory?)
Here are the rumored camera specs from Sony Rumors:
