HDlink Pro Displayport output is 10 bits or 8 bits?
Posted by Manuel López on September 11, 2010 at 5:20 pmHello.
I would like to know if the output of HDLink Pro Displayport is 10 bits or is only 8 bits, as DVI output.
I have been reading in the Blackmagic’s website, but it not appears nothing about this, it’s strange…

DVI is always limited to 8-bit as the DVI specification only allows for 8-bit. The same people who created DVI subsequently created DisplayPort which allows for deeper color and higher bit depths. However no matter whether you have a DVI, HDMI or DisplayPort port, a DVI monitor will always be limited to 8-bit.

There are implementations of 10-bit DVI over dual link but I haven’t seen any thing that does so. If you use HDMI or DisplayPort output via adapters on the HDLink Pro DisplayPort, the output will be 10-bits.

September 13, 2010 at 8:19 amThanks. Excuse my English.
Sorry, I want to be sure if I feed a 10 bits SDI signal in HDLink Displayport, I get a 10 bits signal on input of my Eizo CG243W, is it true, doesn’t? -

September 14, 2010 at 11:40 pmPardon Luke. I’m not asking about DVI, I am asking about displayport: if SDI input of HDlink Pro Displayport is 10 bits, then output via displayport is 10 bits also?
Thanks -

“That’s correct. It is 10-bits.
