HDlink and Dell 2405FPW
Posted by Steven Rushworth on January 11, 2006 at 1:07 amHaving a problem with a new HDlink and a Dell 2405FPW.There is an annoying flicker in the black mask in the top and the bottom of the screen. The actual 16×9 image area of the screen has no flicker. Any experienced this? Is it a Dell issue or a setting on the HDlink?

January 11, 2006 at 3:20 amI’ve seen this slightly if the brightness is turned all the way down sitting in a dark room. I’ve always assumed it was the lcd backlight on the monitor.

January 12, 2006 at 6:51 amHi Stephen,
We’ve also seen this on our Dell monitors. We’ve investigated and found it does not happen with 1080 HD video as the video takes up the full width of the screen. You can only see it in SD at x1 or with 720p material as these do not fill the display. As Shane mentioned, you will only see it with the brightness turned down.
It’s a strange problem as we haven’t seen it on any other monitors and only on this one model.

Do you see it happen on any other model of monitor or is it limited to this one monitor or model of monitor?

January 16, 2006 at 11:13 amHi Luke,
I haven’t had a chance to test with another monitor yet. So haven’t been able to work out if it is a Dell or a HDlink or 1080/50i issue. Hopefully will be able to test with an Apple 23 later in the week.
cheers,

February 22, 2006 at 12:58 pmHi Steve, Luke
Found your thread and wondered if you’d managed to resolve the issue. I’m currently thinking of buying a new system and was considering using the HDlink with Dell 24inch monitors for both HD and SD work.
Do you still have the flicker? Is it enough to distract whilst editing? How do you find the DELL 24’s are they good for grading? Are they better/the same/worse than the Apple cinema displays?
Sorry for all the questions just interested to know before I splash our hard earned cash
Cheers
Mark
