HDLink 2.0 released – adds HDMI display support

We’ve just announced HDLink 2.0 Software for Mac OS X and Windows at IBC 2005, Amsterdam. They are available for immediate download from the Software Downloads page of our web site.
HDLink Utility 2.0 software allows all HDLink models to be upgraded with full HDMI support for large screen flat panel televisions and video projectors. HDLink Utility 2.0 includes HDMI support, and is fully compatible with all HDLink models, so all customers can benefit from the ability to use their HDLink with a wide range of HDMI devices.
HDLink connects post production quality SDI video directly to any supported DVI-D based LCD computer monitor for true HDTV resolution video monitoring. Now with new HDMI support, customers can extend the display choices for HD monitoring to HDMI based large screen televisions and video projectors.
When connecting to HDMI displays, HDLink supports all HDMI displays for up to 1920 x 1080 resolution, although actual display resolution depends on the resolution of the connected HDMI display. HDMI displays make great in suite monitoring solutions when large client video displays are required, as HDMI televisions are larger and much brighter than DVI computer displays. With HDLink, customers have the choice to connect to DVI or HDMI displays.
Audio is output through consumer compatible analog outputs on RCA connectors, letting you connect to standard HiFi systems.
HDLink now supports the following video formats:
- HDTV format support via DVI-D at 1080 lines in 24P, 24PsF, 25P, 25PsF, 30P, 48I, 50I, 59.94I, 60I.
- HDTV format support via DVI-D at 720 lines in 50P, 59.94p, 60P.
- HDTV format support via HDMI at 1080 lines in 50I, 59.94I, 60I.
- HDTV format support via HDMI at 720 lines in 59.94p, 60P.
- Standard definition format support via DVI-D: NTSC, PAL.
With HDLink 2.0 software, all color channels can be adjusted simultaneously when holding the Shift key, and Dual Link 4:4:4 inputs provide increased tolerance for mismatched cable lengths or different SDI routing paths.
I’m going to upload some technical notes on Monday about HDMI. You should be able to use pretty much any DVI-D to HDMI convertor in conjunction with HDLink. Existing HDLink owners can use a third party adapter or purchase one from any Blackmagic Design authorized reseller for around US$20 to $30. All new HDLink product shipping from Blackmagic Design will include an HDMI adapater at no extra charge.

That is great news. One little question/niggle: why do you support 720p50 over DVI-D, but not HDMI?
