We are shooting HDCAM 24p and want to make DVCPRO HD clones.

    What we will be using:
JH3 (HDCAM Player) and 1200a (DVCPROHD)

    1080p to 720p

has anyone done this? via HDSDI since JH3’s firewire is DV NTSC only.

    Thanks

    CHP

Why?: We post in DVCPRO HD for final but want the Cinealta for shooting. And since we own a 1200a we want to be cost effective later in post.

    Fatkid,

The problem with you scheme is that you’d need to create the 3:2 pulldown out of the J3H for the 1200A to record the HD-SDI signal (it can’t handle the Cine Alta style 24 Psf) and that will not have “A” frames for FCP to pull out the individual frames to create a 24p project. That’s not to say you can’t make a 29.97 project, but you won’t be able to conform it to your origional HDCAM footage in online.

Perhaps a Kona card could convert the 24 PsF coming in HD-SDI to DVCPRO100 codec; you’d have to contact them directly to inquire. They are generally very helpful on the phone. Contact the manufacturer “AJA”.

You’re out of luck trying to do this on a 1200A. It plays back but does not record 24P. You need the high-end Panasonic VTR to do this (1700?).

Also, this process needs a standards conversion because HDCAM records & plays PsF format and all Panasonic VTRs record P format.
