    Hi guys,

I have to export my HD sequence to tape. What exactly do I have to do, in order to achieve this.

    1) Change my sequence settings (Right now it’s at 10bit uncompressed)
    2) Change my timeline. (10 hours)
    3) Do I assemble or Insert (which one is safer/prefered)

    Thanks Guys,

    Much appreciated

[Michael Esteves] “What exactly do I have to do, in order to achieve this. “

First, you must own an HD capture card…AJA, Matrox, Black Magic Design. Do you have one? if not, you can’t do this.

[Michael Esteves] “1) Change my sequence settings (Right now it’s at 10bit uncompressed) “

No…why? 10-bit uncompress HD, right? And you have a RAID array that will be fast enough to play that back, right? Then those settings are fine. if 10-bit SD, then that is another story.

[Michael Esteves] “2) Change my timeline. (10 hours) “

Change your timeline to what? 10 hours for what? Rendering? Again…to what?

[Michael Esteves] “3) Do I assemble or Insert (which one is safer/prefered) “

Depends…have you blacked your tape all the way, or just the first few minutes? I tend to black my tape for one min (58:00:00 to 59:00:00), then Assemble Edit from 58:30:00…starting with Color Bars and tone and then slate…blah blah blah. Program start at 1:00:00:00. And you use EDIT TO TAPE, not PRINT TO TAPE…PRINT is for firewire outputs.

Remember, Mark IN on your sequence, make sure that the IN point is also in the ETT window, then drag the sequence from the browser onto the ETT window, choosing the option you want.

Yes we are all setup to do HD. (RAID, KONA CARD, etc…)

Besides making sure the timeline is rendered, is there anything else that I have to do, before editing to tape?

Make sure that the tape is black and coded properly. If 1080i 29.97, then the tape needs to be blacked 1080i29.97. if 1080psf 23.98, then blacked to match. Setting matching is crucial.

I don’t see how you are going to fit 10 hours of material on to a single tape.

Maybe he means program starts at 10 hrs. timecode, like they do in the UK.

God I hope thats what he meant.

The client wants the timeline on the tape to start at the TENTH HOUR…It is physically impossible to fit ten hours of footage on an HDCAM tape!
