    Newbie question!

I have an HD1200A DVCProHD deck that i had placed back into service. All of a sudden it no longer seeing any video on FCP 6.0.4. Odd thing is i hook it up to a different FCP workstation and I get video but not remote control.

I then hooked it up to a PC and it had both video and remote. Am I missing something or just going crazy???

    Any help is well appreciated!

    Steven

Are you using a DVCPro HD Easy Setup?

Did you connect the 1200A to the Mac WHILE THE 1200A WAS TURNED OFF?

then as long as you’re in the correct DVCPro HD mode on both the deck and FCP, and the deck is set to Firewire input, you should be good to go.

The only thing that really should hold that up would be if the deck was in 1080 and FCP in 720 or vice versa. I had that very deck for three years before switching to a couple of 1400’s.

hmmmm. I know that we dont have a setting problem with the capture. We are editing in SD with dv tapes.

Could it be possible it is a setting in the menu? I cant get the OSD to work any more either.

It just boggles the mind that it works only with certain systems. Said part is that deck was a mistake when we purchased it. Was told it records closed captioning. Only problem is it doesnt play captioning. Which has rendered this machine useless for broadcast.

This machine is frustrating the heck out of me!

    Thanks for the ideas Walter

[Steven Lee] “hmmmm. I know that we dont have a setting problem with the capture. We are editing in SD with dv tapes. “

Just FYI, this is very bad, especially if you’re using Sony tapes. We only used DV tapes in our machines for one day and the Sony tapes left a layer of gunk that required us to send the machines in for cleaning. Sony uses a wet lubricant and Panasonic uses a dry lubricant. I always tell people to never put DV tapes in a Panasonic DVCPro HD deck. Purchase a cheap DV deck for DV.

[Steven Lee] “Could it be possible it is a setting in the menu? I cant get the OSD to work any more either. “

The OSD displays out of the composite video display unless you’ve set it to something else. Just look at the manual and you can operate all the menus directly from the front panel.

I can’t remember if there is a separate control to make the deck work properly in DV or not. I don’t think there’s one on the 1400.

[Steven Lee] “Only problem is it doesnt play captioning. Which has rendered this machine useless for broadcast. “

Well that and the record offset. We delivered about 40 episodes of “Good Eats” in HD to the Food Network using that deck before we switched to the 1400’s. It does work for broadcast, but our captions are added after we’re done with the edit by CaptionMax. Don’t know that many machines that handle CC except for the high end studio models. The 1200A is really considered a field recorder, though we used it as a studio VTR.

We found that out early in the process too. Thanks for all your insight! We finally got it working. Had the engineers pull the cards for 1394 and re-seat it and used a different 1394 cable.

Thank You again for your help Walter!
