June 20, 2006 at 8:13 pmOh, also…
Does the HD XDCam “deck” work OK with RS422 control?

Working with DVCPROHD100 is the way to go. Its the best way to work with this footage. Color grading is easy and working with the footage is also a breeze. Then, use your Kona 3 to downconvert on the way out and you should have a really beautiful spot!

June 21, 2006 at 1:54 amI’ve used the DVCPROHD path for a number of spots with this camera, works great. The 25mbs path is just a marketing pitch from Sony and Apple, looks like crap. 35mbs is the only way to use this fine camera. Sony should thank Panasonic for enabling the HDV and XDCAMHD cameras workflow with the editing codec.

June 21, 2006 at 3:23 am[mschirad] What I did hear is that the Sony beta software won’t send your finished sequence back to the deck/XDCam disk.
AFAIK Not true … the beta Sony plugin included an Export option which worked well
[mschirad] You have to use 25 megabit for everything
until Apple release the SP and HQ codecs (and hopefully low-res proxy codec too) then this is unfortunately the case
cheers

June 21, 2006 at 4:08 amAndy,
I hope the export function of the Sony plug-in really does work. Our VP mentioned it not working for our Tampa station, and some communication failures between Apple and Sony. Maybe the issue’s been fixed since he heard about it. (sound of fingers crossing)
I’m afriad we’re gonna be stuck in HDV 25mbit with no DVCProHD conversion capabilities. I’d be shocked if there were a Kona 3 card in the FCP system when it arrives, in around 2 weeks.
The Sony 350 XDCam HD camera arrived yesterday, but no one’s been able to touch it. We’re waiting for a 2nd pricy Canon HD lens to be shipped.

June 21, 2006 at 5:04 pmSteve, do you have any more information about the HD XDCam demo in Chicago on Aug. 1st? I’m up in Green Bay and would be able to attend.

June 21, 2006 at 10:43 pmLatest I heard today is that 35mb and Proxy is usable in the official release software, you can also write back to disc, edit the proxys etc.
Should be out by end of June.
Source is normally reliable!
