  • HD Workflow with various SD formats?

Hi, this is my first HD project, and I basically have no idea where to begin with my questions, so here it goes:

Firstly, I’m on a Media Composer Adrenaline v.2.6.4, and have captured all the HD footage from DVC Pro HD at 720p/60. There’s a good chance I’m going to take the drive this footage is on and edit on Express Pro HD at our other office (Hope this works).

The clients have been giving us all kinds of different formats, at least for an offline. I would like to capture it for editing purposes and edit with it, but the Avid doesn’t like that and won’t allow it (whether it be Beta SP, VHS, mini dv, DVC Pro, etc).

Is there a way to capture this stuff and edit with it? Or do I need to downconvert everything to SD, possibly in a new project (maybe start a new SD project and import the bins from the HD project?), and do a true offline, then recapture everything at HD later?

Can Avid upconvert footage to HD relatively simply and with decent quality? Or do I need to send this non-HD footage out to some post house to have it converted?

That was a lot of questions, but if anyone any insight as to how to deal with this, or where to go to find some quick answers, I’d really appreciate it.

    Thanks,

    Craig

It doesnt sound like this is an HD project at all. Up converting does not make HD. You will see that it’s not. Cutting it with stuff that is will just make it stand out that much more. Ask em what they want but it sounds to me like you are on the right track with a 720 project. You should be able to get your source material in. I don’t know why your Avid is not letting you do that. Can you be more spacific?
