  • HD video on MacBook Pro gets hung up.

Posted by Rob Lorkiewicz on November 11, 2010 at 6:48 am

Some of my HD video will not playback as the Quicktime files, and the clips won’t play in FCP 6 either. It starts for about two seconds, and then the video stops. The audio still continues, and the bar on the timeline continues to move, but the video just gets stuck. Any help? I’m on a MacBook Pro, and these clips run fine on a Mac Studio Pro. I’m running the clip off of an external hard drive through the USB connection (might that be the problem?).

Search this forum and you will find out that editing with h.264 and using a usb drive is not recommended.

He NEVER said he was editing h.264. He actually NEVER said what format he was working with, all he said was HD Video. and really that could mean a LOT of things.

More info Rob on what type of footage you are working with.

And yes STOP using USB for video work.

Hi Rob. Ignore the snippy reply, I get those a lot here.

I know this is an old thread, but I was having the same problem, and I see you never replied. Have you converted your files to ProRes? I am converting MTS files in ClipWrap. If you’re converting other file types, you can convert them to ProRes in Compressor. I just tried converting my files both ways (converted a MTS to H.264, then converted that to ProRes in Compressor) and they both looked the same.

Hopefully you were already able to work out the issue.
