Here’s a good one I hope you folks can help me with! Here’s the situation.

My PC is a 64 bit, Windows 7, 12 GB RAM machine.

I have some AVCHD HD “green screen” source video (1.69 GB) that I keyed out in Adobe After Effects CS4. I rendered out of AE as an .avi file. The rendered file is huge (88,637,799 KB).

I then imported this .avi file into Sony Vegas Pro 8. I have not upgraded to Vegas Pro 9.

The other items in the Vegas timeline are some standard stock images and a 3D image I use for the virtual set background.

I rendered out of Vegas 8 as a .mp4 file using 2-pass encoding at 1280×720.

Here is a link to the video for your reference: https://vidstream.clubwvu.com/vid/5a/38/9e/5a389eb04b97da7.flv.

Now the problem… when I play the rendered video back everything looks great in the beginning… the problem appears about the 1 minute mark.

And the problem is the video of the “talent” (me in this case) starts to flicker and jerk erratically. And the more time goes on the worse the flickering and jerking gets.

I’m about to begin troubleshooting the problem but wanted to see if any of the experts on here had ideas for what the problem might be… or what you’d focus on with your troubleshooting?

Again, here is a link to the video for your reference: https://vidstream.clubwvu.com/vid/5a/38/9e/5a389eb04b97da7.flv.

The flickering problem starts at around the 1 minute mark. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

That is really odd. I assume you rendered the keyed footage as an uncompressed AVI file. Try rendering it as Quicktime Animation with an Alpha Channel. This is what I use for keyed footage and I’ve never experienced any problems with flicker.

Hi John, thanks for the reply!

I should have mentioned this in my original post… but I actually tried that. The rendered Quicktime .mov file out of AE was much smaller than the .avi (mov was 18,245,444 KB while avi was 88,637,799 KB) but after importing the .mov into Vegas Pro 8 and rendering as .mp4 the flickering remained.

My hunch, that I need to test to confirm, is that there may be something with Windows 7 and/or the fact I am using Vegas Pro 8 on a 64 bit machine.

What do you think of my hunch?

Since Vegas Pro 8.0 doesn’t “officially” support Windows 7 it could be something to investigate. You could always download the trial of Vegas Pro 9.0e and see if it fixes the problem.
