HD to SD workflow
Hi All,
What’s your HD to SD workflow?
I shoot 1080p (Canon 7D) or 1080i50 (HDV Sony Z1P) but the final product usually ends up on DVD (SD) or the web (SD or smaller). I usually edit in HD (Apple ProRes 422 sequence), output final video uncompressed and only down convert as a last step when I’m compressing for DVD or web. I’ve never really tested an alternative workflow, but I could see the advantage in down-converting HD to SD before editing and thus saving hard drive space by having smaller video and (presumably) render file sizes.
What does everyone else do?

Just use the DVD high quality preset in Compressor. After exporting a QT reference movie.

Stick to the HD edit workflow and downconvert from your final QT file in Compressor as Shane said. Many advantages in having an HD workflow, including future proofing the final.FCP also does an ordinary job of scaling HD to SD.
If you want a better result than Comressor, then check out Bitvice or Sorenson as better quality mpeg encoders.

It probably worth keeping HD for your main workflow, titles, grading etc. That will give those process the chance to look their best – then you can downgrade the footage to SD.If you downgraded first, then graded etc you produced a worse result. With the prices of hard drives tiny I would keep your workflow if you can

i facing few problem regard hd to sd work flow and want to find profesional to get help.
1) i edit in hd timeline in fcp and output in sd format but don’t know why the final output in sd will jagged nd flicker.Got any suggestion to solve this problem. is it progressive sure will have this issue? i already try a lot of method also face a same problem.
