We have recently purchased the JVC-HM700U. And I’m shooting in the XDCAM EX codec. When shooting in 24p, regardless if it’s 1080 or 720, the footage looks kind of stuttery or strobing. This happens when watching it on the broadcast monitor. Our Media Composer is outputting through the Mojo SDI to the Beta deck. But the only way to output a picture to the broadcast monitor or to tape is for me to change the project type to 23.976p NTSC. When this happens, the footage does not look very clean or smooth. And I do have the video quality button in the timeline set to 10. But when I change the project type back to 1080p/23.976 and watch it play back on my computer monitor, it’s clean and smooth.

Now I know the Mojo SDI will not output the 1080 signal. But what settings do I want to ensure are checked to get a clean HD signal down-converted through the Mojo? And I’m currently just consolidating my footage rather than transcoding. Other than compression, does one benefit the other?

The original Mojo SDI is not a full frame quality down convert of the HD signal. It is using partial frame decode to make SD. The Mojo DX and Nitris DX do full image resize as part of the down convert.

So you’re saying the Mojo SDI is the reaason I’m seeing the strobbing/stuttering effect?

It can certainly be a contributor to the issue.
