HD to SD DVD Using Final Cut Pro
I need to make the highest quality SD DVD from HD footage that I can using the Final Cut Suite. I’ve experienced and read about the poor quality results going from HD footage to SD.
Could someone please advise as to the best process of going from HD footage (shot with a Canon XHA1) to burning on a standard definition DVD, using the Apple version of Final Cut suite?
Is it best just to shoot originally in SD mode if your product is ending up on a SD DVD? I hope there is a good solution staring with HD footage?!

Yes, I’ve looked through the forums but still am having difficulty. Anyone’s ideas or experience would help!!!

This really does come up all the time and a search will show all the results….
Shoot HD.
Capture HD.
EDIT HD.
Output sequence “current Settings” make a ref file.
Drop file into compressor and choose SD DVD.
Turn Frame control on and best.
Tweak data rate to your program length.

Question, would you advise going directly from FCP to Compressor then to DVD or from FCP to exporting to QT then to DVD for best quality?

No

No again.
Export using current settings in FCP, take that file into compressor and compress for DVD, then take the files created by compressor into DVDSP and create your DVD.

From FCP do I ‘Export’ > Quick Time Movie’, Current Settings? Sorry for not being clear. This is better than straight to Compressor or Quick Time Conversion?
