I have a bunch of 1920×1080 HD backgrounds that I bought from Digital Juice. I wanted to make 720×486 SD 10 bit versions to use in FCP with the sides cropped off to prevent distortion. I know how to use their Juicer program to crop the sides and resize to what I need but the results are not optimized for FCP- I still have to run the resulting files through Compressor to get them to play well. So I RTFM for Compressor, combined it with info from Juice and came up with these settings for Compressor:

Encoder: Video: Apple 10 bit uncompressed 29.97fps
Frame controls: set all to “better”
    Geometry: Cropping: left=119, right=119, top=0, bottom=0. Frame size: custom, 720×486. Pixel aspect=default, constrain aspect=none.

This has worked well for me and runs nearly as fast on my G5 as the Juicer program alone, generally 5 minutes for a 30 second clip. Hope this is helpful to someone. If you have come up with a better way to do this, please let me know!
