  • HD to DV25 conversion on the fly?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but…

Are current Mac’s able to downconvert HD (any given flavour) to DV25 on the fly (via FireWire) for offline cutting?

I’m thinking ahead to a possible HVX-200 project, actually, and I think this camera can downcovert inside the camera, from the P2 card to tape, but it got me thinking about other ways to do things.

(OT) Remember the old days when someone discovered they could downconvert DV25 to Photo-JPEG on the fly, before it was officialy a feature? My, how things have changed.

Final Cut can downconvert and encode to DV if you capture via SDI using a Decklink or Kona card. Just not firewire. But there’s really no need to since every HD VTR w/ firewire I know of (HDV or DVCProHD) can do the conversion to DV itself.

Ah, that’s cool. That’s exactly what I was wondering. Haven’t had hands on with HD gear yet, but I was guessing this was the case.

    Thanks, Sean!
