HD Tape to dvd transfers with time code

In the past couple of weeks I transferred roughly 73 hours worth of footage shot on a dvx-100 at 4:3 ratio…24p onto dvds with time codes so we can do our edl’s. No problem using the dvc-2500 and a dvd burner. The problem is: We had another DP shoot stuff in Italy, only they used a Sony Camera HD format 24p and it appears to be 1080. Well we purchased a Canon HV-20 so as to transfer the tapes with t/c to dvds for the project. OK so our equipment isn’t working with it and we tried capturing it to final cut 4.5 which is supposed to work with HD So finally I captured it into IMOVIE which has no option for 24p and then I turn the clips into final cut and open them there. But isn’t there a way to see the time code? Why can’t final cut recognize the camera? We need to finish two clips for the two projects to be financed…I would appreciate a simple formula since we have a great mac pro computer and we need to get this done…

I assume the HD tape is HDV format. When FCP 4.5 was released HDV didn’t exist so it is not unexpected that such old software doesn’t recognise the camera.
However, most HDV devices will do a down convert to DV codec. If you set the playback device to do that correctly, FCP should recognise that device as DV firewire. Forget iMovie as it convert HDV to AIC which isn’t a useful codec to integrate with you other footage.

But not HDV. That didn’t start until FCP 5.1 I believe.
