As HD-SDI capturing is still broken with FCP 5.0.2 I was wondering how this is affecting your workflow and what folks are doing as a work-around.

For those who don’t use it, if you capture via HD-SDI, FCP will not connect correctly to the clip after it is captured. You’ll get what looks like a Subclip in the Bin and there will be no video. There are two workarounds that I know of.

One – Remove Subclip Limits. This works ok, but still leaves about 20 seconds of bogus black at the end of each clip and the clips seem to go “offline” a lot when a project is relaunched.

Two – Import the clips back into the project from the harddrive and delete all the subclips.

This whole issue started with FCP 5.0 and has continued through to 5.0.2. At this point it’s really starting to become a major drag on the workflow here whenever we do HD-SDI captures. What are you doing as a workaround for this?

    Walter,

We haven’t seen that behavior here.

Panasonic AJ-HD1200a deck and Sony J-H3 all going into Kona 2 via HD-SDI. Works okay for us.
