HD Rendering Times
I’ve just completed a feature shot in HD F900 24p transferred and cut in DVCAM, rendering the 90 minute time line with variable speeds, open titles, color correction, closing credits, etc takes about 3 hours using FCP 5.0, G5 DP 2gig with 2.5gig ram.
We are getting ready to batch at HD quality and curious about increased render times for HD projects. Experienced HD FCP editors, please tell me if the increased render time is substantial.

Yep, probably at least double depending on if you’re going to go 8 or 10 bit uncompressed. It could be more like tripled but you’ll just have to start it rendering.
on the speed changed materials, you’ll most likely have to manually re-insert those shots and they never re-digitize correctly. What I would do is make a separate timeline with just the speed changed stuff and then you’ll just manually reapply the speed changes and in-out points on the clips.
