What format of HD? Your current setup is all geared up for SD work, and will not work for any format of HD. It can handle an offline edit, but not an HD one.

Lacking is an HD capture card (Kona 3 or LHe) and maybe more drive space, depending on the format you will be working with. Might have to look at a SATA Raid like what http://www.caldigit.com has to offer. The computer is fine, your computer monitors are fine. But to monitor and color correct HD, you wll need the HD capture card and an HD monitor. You might look at the Matrox MXO option. Turns an Apple 23″ Cinema Display into a broadcast HD monitor. I am still looking into that.

Not knowing what you are doing. Research…do a lot of research (www.hdforindies.com is a good place to start. Read the FAQ) and then test your workflow. Make sure it works. A lot of people jump in head first and find out they don’t know what they are doing or that the workflow they THOUGHT would work, doesn’t.

Thanks Shane… Actually I think my AJA card should work. My system has Media 100HDe which came with the AJA OEM board. I assume it’s for HD. You metioned the Caldigit, tha’s what I have.

I’ll check out those other things you mentioned. Thanks for your advice.

Well which is it? In your original post you said you have an AJA IO (which is a stand-alone box
connected by FW400). Now you have an AJA card and a M100HD. It’s hard to give advice when
the story changes. *If* you have an AJA IO, it won’t ingest or spit out HD. If you’re talking about
HDV when you say HD, you have the horsepower and storage for that. You’ll need an HD monitor,
or a downsampled image to play to an SD monitor. *If* you have a M100HDe, it downsamples HD
to an SD monitor.

I don’t get the “spy for AJA” analogy. I guess I don’t get the typo part either. An AJA IO is a long way
from a M100HDe. And you have a M100HDe and you’re not sure it does HD, hmmm. Sorry if I was a little harsh, but when you ask a question and someone takes the time to help and then you say “oh, as it happens, I have an HD card, so I’m all set” it’s a waste of the person’s time.
As for the SATA array, you might refer to Bob Zelin’s review of the CalDigit in the Cow’s review section to see if it will do what you want.

Hi Ed, I was responding to your seemingly paranoid response. “*If you have an Aja…” The reason I originally stated it as an I/O was because often when I ask a question on the forum regarding my dual system of Media 100 HDe and FCP 5.12, more people get caught up in the fact that I’m running 2 systems, and I get many comments saying it won’t work, etc. I never get my question answered. It becomes a time waster.

The point is when you buy a Media 100HDe system, that comes with the board and an AJA OEM, sometimes it helps to talk to other people to really understand what you have and how to use it better.
