I have a project with HD footage (1080p24). I would like to playout a sequence to a mini DV deck via firewire.

I assume that I will need to export the sequence in some form to compressor and change it to a DV format before I “print to video”. I would also like to know if I can burn a DVD with these same settings, or would I need to do it differently.

This former Avid editor sure could use some advice. Thank you in advance.

    G5 Quad 2.5
    4.5 Ram
    2 Cinema Displays
    3 Lacie 1T firewire drives

To play it out firewire in 5.1.4, yes, you would need to convert the file to DV.

For the DVD, you need a MPEG2 file, so you would either convert the DV file to MPEG2, convert the original footage to MPEG2, or downconvert the footage to a better format than DV (ie DV50, Uncompressed 8-bit) and export it to MPEG2 from that file.
