Posted by Bernard Ageeb on January 23, 2008 at 3:26 pmI Have a Panasonic Monitor BT-LH1700W, which i would like to have my macbook pro labtop hooked up to. I will be using color to do my final clean up of my project. How can i get the highest quality out from the labtop to the monitor? Thanks in advance

January 23, 2008 at 3:33 pmLook at a Matrox MXO or (better but requiring another FW port if you use FW for input or drives supplied by a PCI express card) an Io HD. Only way this is going to happen.

January 23, 2008 at 3:37 pmYou can use an IoHD, but Color is limited to SD output right now via Firewire.
I have not used a Maxtrox product but others on the Cow have.

January 23, 2008 at 4:16 pmThe MXO is a great product, connects via DVI, and is now compatible with Color.
HOWEVER…it is not compatible with the lastest line up of MacBook Pros. Any with the NVidia graphics card. That, is a bummer.

January 23, 2008 at 4:18 pmIf you are going to do any serious editing on MacBook Pro, I’d recommend the ioHD anyway. At least you will have input and deck control capability as well as all the other great goodies that come with it.

January 23, 2008 at 5:55 pmI’m a fairly new Matrox MXO user and absolutely love it. I would quickly recommend it..
But beware about Shane’s warning. It still will not work with the newest MacBook Pros with the Nvidia chipset. You can read all about this on their forum so beware of this before making this decision. If you have an ATI card you’re fine.

GREAT SCOTT!!!! I almost bought one a couple of weeks ago for my new MacBook Pro. That would have been a disaster! Thanks for the warning!

January 23, 2008 at 6:17 pmYeah, sorr Paul. A fix is in the works, and is tied to an OS update. SO…gotta wait for that.

January 23, 2008 at 9:56 pmTied to an update reminds me of the fat girl on TV (episode of Friends), her friends are shocked at how big she was and she says “The camera adds 10 pounds.” Her friend replies, “My god, how many cameras did they have on you?!” I know, it’s a stretch, but my point is “How many OS updates do you mean?” The MXO hasn’t worked with MacBookPros since around July, about 7 months. The month before, OSX 10.4.10 was released (and Matrox certainly got the developers’ build). OSX 10.4.11 came out in November (no fix), and 10.5, Leopard, came out in October, no fix. OSX 10.5.1 came out in November, no fix, and finally, 10.5.2 is close to release, maybe this week. Let’s hope that’s the OS update Matrox will finally tie their fix to. 🙂 On the upside, graphics drivers in 10.5.2 are separate installs, so maybe that will help.
I really want/ed an MXO, but Matrox has been less than forthcoming about a fix, and their advertisements have been lies basically (they all show a really nice looking Apple laptop, and nowhere say “it only works with old laptops”.

Don’t bet on it. From my understanding that is how the RT Mac fiasco happened. Apple didn’t let them in on the OS loop.
It should come with the latest Leopard update…meaning that you need Leopard in order to use the MXO with the MacBook Pros with the NVidia cards.
I talked at length with the Matrox guys.
Yeah, this issue has prevented me from buying a MacBook Pro. Good thing, actually, because now I need a new MacPro, and to have bought TWO new machines would have been a hard hit.
