HD NTSC to PAL video jerks
Hello all,
my clients in US are sending me HD NTSC original file converted to PAL at their end on fcp and then exported as mxf (xdcam hd 422 at 50 mbps)using the xdcam plugin, but when i play the pal file the video is jerking and high movements are not smooth.
my client puts the HD ntsc file onto a 25 fps HD xdcam sequence and then exports xdcam hd 422 50i at 50 mbps using the xdcam plugin. i have tried using the diff field dominance but still the same jerky playback.
can any one pls advise? thanks a lot -

Yeah…what they did was wrong. That is about the worse way to convert NTSC to PAL. You can’t just put NTSC clip in a PAL timeline in FCP and BOOM, it’s now PAL.
There is no way to fix it on your end…the file was rendered/encoded with that mess in it. They will need to do a PROPER conversion. Run the footage through a Terranex or something.

So if they put the file on NTSC timeline itself nd then export in PAL? Wl tht do?
Any hardware comversion will be time consuming as i blv it wil take real time.
Any other options? Compressor?

Would take longer than real time. Well, nattress.com had a STANDARDS CONVERTER plugin for FCP…made NTSC work in a PAL timeline properly, and PAL in an NTSC timeline. You can give that a shot.
