September 10, 2008 at 8:04 pmJust look at my Profile and you’ll see how we have our three systems set up. No XSAN though, we run all eSATA and will be sharing those very shortly using the nifty setup Bob Zelin has shared with the herd.

September 10, 2008 at 8:21 pmI just finished a show with that setup. Four Octo 3.0 machines running Leopard and FCP 6.0.2 (haven’t updated yet), and XSAN 2 with about 24TB of storage that is also running leopard. Biggest thing is to have ALL machines running exactly the same versions of the OS and QT and FCP. We had issues at first because I was running Leopard (had to, new machine) and the other 3 were running Tiger. It would be best to get all of your machines to be the exact same model too.
Then one room can be your COLOR room too, or you can have a separate COLOR bay. We color offsite and Media Manage, which has been pretty painless.
But we edit at full quality, so there is no recapture for online. That is the reason for the 24TB XSAN. Twelve hour long episodes. If you have a larger continuing series, you might want to look into the offline/online workflow.
