[Joe Murray] “What’s the model # on that Panasonic 50″ plasma?”

TH-50PHD8UK. It’s the latest model of the plasma and features 1366×768 pixel size for a true 720p image. It’s features all pro BNC connections and you can add a host of inputs to it like HD-SDI, HDMI, Composite / S-Video, and there’s even a three port PC that can be installed in there to allow for touch screen / write-on operation for presentations.

[Bob Zelin] “I could be wrong here, but I am now told that MODERN current Plasma screens like the
new Panasonic plasma DO NOT burn, and that this is an urban legend that applied to early plasmas. Again, I don’t know this for a fact and I could be wrong about it (I read an article in a pro video magazine about this – who knows how accurate the author was). “

I’ve actually seen it on a plasma, but to be fair, I’ve seen it on a rear projection set as well. I’ve also seen plasma screens die after only 14 months. One assumes that all of this improves in time. For me, the slow refresh kept us from using one for personal HD viewing. Now I know why the stores like to show animated films on the plasmas on display… like everything, it improves with each revision.

I read this as well in a recent TV Technology magazine. They will burn in if an image is left up there too long, but then they can “un-burn” themselves over a short period of time with regular use.

OK, so how do you guys deal with the delay inherent in plasma displays? Is this also an issue with LCD?

[Walter Biscardi] “I’ve been waiting on the second PVM monitor for our second suite for a bit and now it just made for perfect timing to get both. Thanks!”

Well, the reseller came back and told me that the only PVM-20L5/1’s available today are B-Stock, so we switched it out for a 14″ model of which there seems to still be a plentiful supply. Not as large as I would like, but at least I get the SMPTE-C phosphors and the multi-format / 24p playback.

He also offered to sell me a new Panasonic BT-LH1700 which is their LCD Reference monitor and features two HD-SDI inputs standard. But I’m not ready to purchase a first generation LCD Reference monitor and will see what next year’s NAB brings about.

Do you guys see the lack of HDMI being the reason for the price drop & do you see it being an issue for using this monitor in a Home Theatre System a year from now?…

HDMI is one of the optional boards. I checked with my cable provider and they don’t use HDMI as an input, just component. Now the new HD-DVD players might use HDMI. The beauty of the Panasonic screens is that you can add this input later if you need it by simply installing the board.

Walter, have you gotten this monitor installed yet? If so, are you seeing any sync issues?

    Thanks,

Nope, no monitor yet. I do have sync issues with my current Vizio Plasma though. The only way to keep the audio in sync is to play the audio out of the Vizio since there’s about a 2 frame delay in the processing time of the screen.

Do you still have it? Can you ship out? What are you asking for it? Thanks for your time.
