Posted by Mark Griesbauer on November 13, 2008 at 4:10 pmHi all…need to dump HD footage to from FCP to Beta SP. I know there are down converters out there, but is there a work-around? and for broadcast quality?
thnx in advanced

November 13, 2008 at 4:31 pmTo get any video to betaSP you need a capture card. Beta decks do not have firewire inputs. So since you need a capture card, just get an HD capture card and that will do the downcovert for you. If you have a MacPro, the cheapest one available is the Decklink Intensity Pro. Might be better to get the Decklink Extreme or Kona LH…more professional connections.

November 13, 2008 at 4:45 pmHey thnx for the quick reply…I guess I should have mentioned that we do have a AJA IO LA, so we can master to Beta…Just now I tested a SD seq from FCP w/the HD footage inside(I Had to render long time LOL) but it seems to work…now it looks ok but do you think this way would be fine for broadcast?
thnx again,

As long as you color correct for SD, and make sure that you fall into the appropriate parameters for SD delivery…should be fine. But yeah, with the I/O LA, you need to downconvert via Compressor or Media manager, or drop into an SD timeline and render.
