  • HD lost when event imported from iMovie

I’m trying the Final Cut Pro X Trial as opposed to iMovie. I’ve imported some events that were HD but learned when I went to share with Youtube that resolution available was 960 X 540. If I Quicktime share via iMovie to my hard drive and import the movie into Final Cut Pro X I no longer have this happen. Not sure what’s up as I’m just learning.

iMovie has the option of creating (conforming) projects to 960×540. For the consumer, this means their video will take up 1/4 of the space of full HD.

Technically, btw, 960×540 is HD, defined as greater than SD (640×480).

I’d suggest looking at the original QuickTime files – if they’re 960×540, you may have chosen this option when ingesting your material into iMovie.
