HD import veeeerrrrryyyy ssllloooowwww
I have a Mac Mini with a 1.45 GHz G4, 0.75 GB RAM, and a 12 inch powerbook with a 1.33 GHz G4, 0.5 GB RAM. Both are running OS X 10.4.6. On both of these machines when I try to import HD video into FCE (or iMovie) it comes in at 1/8 speed, which means it takes me eight hours to import a on-hour tape. Everyone I’ve talked to seems to think that I should be getting much better performance than this, but has no idea what might be causing the poor performance. Any ideas or suggestions (othat than buying a new machine)? Thanks.

Your machine does not match the recommended specs for HD
At least try adding more RAM…. also drive speed may be an issue here
But yes… you are trying to jump a bus riding a mini scooter
