HD from FCP to AVID Xpress Pro HD
I work with Avid Xpress Pro HD. Unfortunately a client of mine has hired someone to shoot operation center video to use in his spot. His company is local but the operation center is out of state. The person shooting the video uses FCP. I have been all over forums trying to find out how he can export the video in a format that I can use. What I’ve found is that he needs to export a QT movie with the DNxHD or DVCProHD codec. He says he can’t do those codecs. He sent me a Data DVD with several different QT codecs – on the ones I can open the audio is fine but the video is just blank white. Does anybody know how to export HD footage from FCP as a file that will work with Avid Xpress Pro HD?

What camera and format did he shoot with? HDV or XDCAM HD? Have him send you the original tape/disc and rent a deck.

He shoots with a Sony PMW-EX3 and he shoots to memory card. I’ve already suggested tape, and I have a DVCPro100 deck already, but he said he doesn’t have the tape option on his camera and doesn’t have a deck to export to either. He’s a webmaster for an internet site and doesn’t work with broadcast video. The only solution we’ve come up with is for him to burn a DVD and then for me to capture the video from the DVD, but I’m worried about losing generations.
Is there any QT or other file type that will work for HD video on both FCP and AVID XpressPro HD? -
Tell him to go here and download the Avid codecs:

Tell him to export quicktimes to the DV100 codec. It’s Avid’s DVCProHD codec, basically. There’s no reason he can’t export a Quicktime to an Avid codec since the codecs are readily available.
