  • HD Frame Rate vs. Field Rate?

    Hello the COW!

OK, let me apologize if this is a dumb question, but…

I’m designing HD graphics for a client, and I asked them what the frame rate of their HD project was, and they gave me this answer:

The Frame rate is 29.97, which is a field rate of 59.94.

So, before I ask the client to clarify, I wanted to ask you guys for clarification(if possible). This means I deliver footage to them that is 29.97, correct? This means I set my comps in AFX to be 29.97fps, yes? I’m not sure I understand what they mean when they say 29.97fps is a field rate of 59.94.

    Any feedback welcome!

    Thanks!
    Jason

Ya, do it in 29.97fps. There are two fields per frame, hence 59.94 fields per second.

Right. When you render, set it to “fields”. The next question you should ask them is the frame size and whether they want upper or lower field first.
