HD footage staggering when exported.

Before I post this, thanks to everyone at Creative Cow for a truly brilliant resource, full of great information which has come in very useful over the years.

I filmed a few hours of footage on HDV on a small hand held camera with SD card. I have transferred all the footage to FCP version 6.0.6

When I drag the footage to the timeline and play it, it staggers, even after redering it. But this is not my biggest concern. When I export the footage I have edited as a quick time movie, the footage continues to stagger. And now and then, a flash of green covers the screen.

How to I stop the staggering without having to re-edit all the footage?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wow. Where to begin… Have you searched post here?

Start with the Tapeless Workflow tutorial here on the cow.

Convert mpeg stuff to a edit codec FCP likes.

What hard drive are you playing this media off of?
What settings are your clips? Sequence? Do they match?

Hi Chris

Thanks for the advice. Watched the tutorial you recommended and learnt plenty.

So what I did to test is export one clip using compressor, made in into a quick time file, imported it back into fcp and then into the timeline and it works fine, no staggering. My plan is to do this with all the footage.

However, how do I make all the footage which I have spent days editing (under the mpeg4 format) on the timeline re-connect with the new quicktime files? Is this actually possible?

Have you looked @ media manager?

I have never used Media Manager before and would not know where to start. Can you please give me a brief explanation of how I could use this to change existing edited footage to new quicktime format?
