  • HD footage not rendering properly… HELP

Posted by Martin Sterling on March 8, 2006 at 12:25 am

Hey so basically I am working in FCP 5 G5 Dual 2GHZ processor runnin 10.3.9, I am working with DVCPRO HD 720p, 960×720 footage. I downloaded the codec from panasonics site as well as installed the frame rate convertor. My “Easy set up” is on, DVCPRO HD 720p24. When I render a dissolve in my time line the footage jumps. What would be causing that?

    THANK U N ADVANCE

Double check your Sequence Settings to ensure the Sequence is truly DVCPro HD 24.

Ensure that your footage has already been converted to 23.98 before editing with it.

Well, maybe I wasn’t clear or dont understand. It is a DVCPRO HD 720p 60 Timeline at 23.98. The footage is 23.98. Easy Set Up is DVCPRO HD 720p24. What are you saying I should do?

[Martin Sterling] “It is a DVCPRO HD 720p 60 Timeline at 23.98.”

    Ok, that doesn’t make sense. It’s either a DVCPro 60 (59.94) timeline or it’s a DVCPro 24 (23.98) timeline. It can’t be both.

Make sure you’re truly editing in a 23.98 timeline with true 23.98 footage. If they match, then all will be well with the transition.

In Sequence Settings, the Quicktime compression is set at 720p60 and the Editing timebase is 23.98.
    Is that the correct options?

yep that’s correct. I forgot about how Quicktime always shows 720/60 as the compressor.

Then I really don’t know what’s going on over there to make it jump.

I’ve had this same problem and so far nobody has an answer. Check and see if it is “adding” a frame at your dissolves. That’s what it looks like to me when I step through frame by frame. Also, it looks fine when it is not rendered (green bar) but does the extra frame thing when you fully rneder. It’s terrible and I wish somebody out there could figure it out. I’m seeing this come up more and more.

My footage was 720p24pN P2 from an HVX-200. OSX 10.3.9, FCP 5.0.4. Same easy preset you used.

Still at the same place I was. What I was going to do, being the fact final delivery is gonna be on DigiBeta for Broadcast, I was gonna recompress the footage to uncompressed 8 bit 23.98 and relink it to the cut. The only problem I’ve found with that (I did a test with DV at 23.98) is the sync slips in the cut. Almost like its still not recgnizing the exact frame #s from HD. I’ll have to slip some shots, but hopefully that’ll work. It better, Im out of options. IS THERE ANYONE FROM MAC OUT THERE THAT CAN ADDRESS THIS? We are dying over here!!!
