    Hi All,

    Probably a simple fix but…

I’m working with 1080p 23.98 footage captured in FCP straight from D5. Import straight into AE 6.5 (never could get used to 7…) Anyway, the rendered file never comes near to matching the original footage and is always washed out.

    What am I missing?

    Thanks in advance,
    Joey

what are your capture settings? what codec are you using to capture? do you have any capture issues from that device with sd or 720hd?

    Hi Dave,

First off, I watch these posts all the time and you give great advice. I wish it was just the computer monitor. I am monitoring on a Panasonic BT-LH1700W. Footage looks great until I get to AE.

is it washed out more than selecting expand 601 levels in the interpret footage settings would bea able to compensate for?

are you only seeing this in ae thru video preview in the panasonic? or is it also in the render when imported into the nle? it could be a setting issue in the video preview pref, make sure it’s set to use the correct output mode.

    Thanks Kevin,

I figured it was a simple solution. Expand 601 levels worked. Why does AE not do that for HD footage?

Hello. I was having the same problem. Tried the suggestion in this post and it worked for me as well.

I started a new project that required the KONA and and AVID codec. I downloaded them and went on to work on the project, did not see an issue in that project. So far I have opened two older HD projects and I ran into this washed out looked. These are projects I began and finished prior to loading these codecs.

As I said I checked the 601 box in the interpret footage window and the issue was fixed. Will I have to check this box from now on? Should I trash the codecs?

    Thanks,
    Brett

This was resolved with the CS3 rollout… Time to upgrade! 🙂
