  • HD Files (MTS) Converting To WMV (Slow computer)

AS YOU MIGHT KNOW FROM THE TITLE, I HAVE A VERY NORMAL LAPTOP THAT CAN’T HANDLE HD VIDEOS.

When i shot my scenes these are the properties:
    Video: 00:00:13.013, 29.970 fps interlaced, 1440x1080x12, AVC
    Audio: 00:00:13.013, 48,000 Hz, Stereo, Dolby AC-3

So I started editing those videos on Sony Vegas and i noticed that the preview is really slow, it keeps cutting, and i didn’t enjoy working with the videos. I decided to convert the files (MTS – high quality) to something else (low quality, so that the preview will be much better. Now here is why i did that,

You see how sometimes when you work on a video, and then you delete it or you move it from the desktop to some other folder, and sony vegas shows you a message telling you (missing file ….) and you have to replace it.

so i though i showed do the editing with the low quality videos, and when i am done with everything, i just change the folder name, so that it shows me the message missing file, and when it does that, i can just select my High quality videos.

Don’t forget by doing that, everything will stay the same. (same editing)

so now my question is this, how can i select all those files on time, you see it keeps telling me please replace video 1.wmv, and i have to go to video 1.mts and select.
Now how can i just change the format, like instead of looking for 1.wmv, i want it to look for 1.mts, … 2.mts, … ETC…..

I hope you guys understood what i mean

Another questions? Is there a way i can lower the quality of MTS files without doing the converting to wmv, or can is there any program that converts from wmv to mts?

My laptop is slow for MTS files, and i need to lower the quality, and before I render the video, i will just replace the videos with the high quality videos.

    Thanks,

If you’re using Vegas Pro 8 or 9, try the free Proxy Stream/ script.
Instructions are in the included readme file.

(Proxy Stream 15d.dll) where do i copy it to ?

and how do i run the script from sony vegas ?

Unfortunately scripting is a feature that is only available in the Pro version of Vegas, not in any of the Movie Studio versions.
It looks like you’re going to have to continue doing it the way you are are deal with swapping out the files one at a time.
    Sorry 🙁

I’ve spent the last few weeks helping someone get up to speed on Movie Studio Platinum.
Trust me when I say that I could never use it as I’d miss so many features that I use almost daily.
The only drawback for you is the cost as upgrade pricing is almost $500 U.S.
If you’re a student, you can save a lot of money as the educational price (exact same software) is a lot less.

Can anyone say if using the proxy stream script is any faster than using cineform HD-Link to convert files? If it takes the same amount of time to convert I may as well convert to high quality avi’s right?

    thx
