    Hi Guys,

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but I’m sure someone here will be able to help.

I am shooting on the HPX170 either at 1080 or 720 (not sure yet but will probably need slo mo) something that is going to be projected at a live music event on screen behind a band playing.

    My two questions are:

    1) for quality’s sake am I best shooting 50p/25p/25pn (PAL land by the way) or does it not make any difference

    and

    2) to maintain best quality of projection what should my export procedure be bearing in mind that: projector will be: Barco CLM R10 Projectors (10k ANSI Lumens) and all content will be output at 1024×768, most probably in DVI/VGA or possibly in PAL via Composite or SDI Video. I’m asking also because clearly this is not 16:9 so do I conform my HD images to 1024×768 or let them play out as 16:9, I presume with bars.

    Thanks for any guidance.
    Ben

If this is for a performance-specific video, and it sounds like that, you could use the full projector image, in which case I’d design and shoot with cropping the horizontal in mind. Or, “crop” the screen surface so it is 16:9, and use a letterbox projection.
In general, you want to use as much of the projector image as possible, but you can mask it in any way you like in a performance situation. I’ve done masks for hexagonal screens on stage…
You just need to decide _before_ you start shooting!

    Have fun,
    Jeff
