Here is my workflow for Digital Cinema Projection. My final film is darker than the original source tape. I’m also seeing a bit of a pulse and artifacting during the projection. It would be great if someone could check my workflow and give any recommendations for better results.

    Original Tape: HDCAM 1080i 59.94

    HDCAM Deck: Sony HDW-500

Capture: Final Cut Pro HD through Kona 3 card

Capture Settings: Aja Kona DVCPRO HD 1080i 29.97 (can’t get fast enough
through-put for uncompressed capture yet, but I’m working on that)

Sequence Settings: 1920 X 1080, square pixels , 29.97i , 8-bit uncompressed , 8-bit YUV (these settings get me back to the correct aspect ratio for my image sequence)

At this point I make the film into a Targa image sequence and process the files into a .qcc file for Digital Cinema Projection. It’s projected using a Quvis Digital Cinema Player. Lots of steps huh? Any ideas why my final product would be darker than the original source tape when played side by side. Any help or ideas would be great. I know there could be many variables. Thanks.
