HD Backup_can’t copy busy items???
Hello friends at the cow.
I’m getting ready to upgrade OSX to 10.4 on my Dual Processor G4, doing erase and install
.
In order to back up stuff I don’t want to loose, I thought the easiest would be to just copy the complete Harddrive to an external Fire Wire drive.Well…when I try to do that, after a while it returns a message , stating:”One or more files are busy and can’t be copied.
Can someone please help me out on this one. It would be greately appreciated.cheers,

my guess is that you are trying to simply drag all the contents of the system drive to the external. The reason for the message saying [pixelmeister] “”One or more files are busy and can’t be copied. “ is because you are probably trying to copy the system files that are always in use.
If you just copy your users folder that should contain all your personal data.
Another option is to clone the drive using a program like carbon copy cloner.

I followed your advise and downloaded Carbon Copy Cloner (very reasonable shareware fee, by the way) and it worked like a charm. Very easy to use..one click and done!
Once again thanks for the help.To me it’s just wonderful to see how folks here at the Cow donate their time and knowledge to help each other out. That what keeps the world spinning….
