HD 1920×1080 preset
Hi guys.
Premiere 2015.3 on Win7.
I am now filling the gaps in my Premiere knowledge after many years and some things have bugged me for years. my question is this: I want to create a reel that it’s output is HD 1080P 25FPS. am I to choose this preset?
I know I can create my own but this begs the question: why isn’t this popular preset in there already like it Ps/Ae/Ai?

Hi Roei,
In reality, it doesn’t matter what codec you are editing, such as DNxHD, ProRes, or AVCHD. What matters is the settings inside the Sequence Preset, which should match up with your source footage. Meaning:
- Frame Size
- Frame Rate
- Pixel Aspect
- Fields
If you open the 1080p25 presets for ARRI, AVCHD, or DSLR, you will find that frame size, frame rate, pixel aspect and fields will all be identical between them. And the choice of preset has nothing to do with which format you may eventually be exporting to.
This system allows mixing of footage in a Sequence. For instance a 3-camera job I am editing right now includes 1080i footage of 3 types:
- AVCHD
- ProRes 422
- Sony XAVC
I can use any of the 1080i60 presets and that will work with all of my footage.

I see. so why do we have all those presets if some of them are actually the same in frame size and rate,PAR,and fields?

I believe it is for convenience for the user to find something similar to what they are working with as a source.
Try this – right-click on one of your video clips in the Project Bin, and select New Sequence from Clip. You will find that Premiere simply assigns the first matching preset that it finds, going alphabetically, so you may end up with an ARRI preset for instance. In fact, this is the safest way to start a project, let Premiere match your footage to a preset, then you know things will be correct.

thanks for the shortcut. I usually drag it to the new sequence icon.

this is true if I was creating a sequence that matches my source. I often edit from different sources. now I have to edit a showreel from different rates and resolution and just wanted to create a standard HDTV 25 Composition. I got confused by the many presets… I know I can create my own but thought that there would be one already to be a general HD. now I know Premiere actually has a couple and all are really the same.

Right, just the names are different. And dragging method you use is the same as right-click, different ways to accomplish same result.
