I am in the process of uploading several 30 min programs recorded on DVCPpro HD 1080 60i. My goal is to convert them for European broadcast and deliver the media as files on removable hard drives.

I have captured the media using Black magic HD extreme, 10 bit, uncompressed.

I would like to do the frame rate conversion using Vegas 9e. My first question has to do with property settings in Vegas properties.

What setting should I use in motion blur type field?

    Gaussian
    Pyramid
    Gaussian (asymmetric)
    Pyramid (asymmetric)
    Box (asymmetric)

And which setting should I use in deinterlace field?

    Blend fields
    interpolate fields.

The content of the material is basically outdoors, with lots of sweeping jib arm shots and some panning and zooming.

Overall Vegas is doing a very good job. I find it hard to tell the difference with most of these settings, but would appreciate any experienced user to share any knowledge they have of this type rendering.

    Thanks,

    Larry Brewer

I gave never changed the motion blur setting from the default Gaussian and if you’re not intentionally adding motion blur it doesn’t matter what you set it to because it won’t be used.

The deinterlace method will matter if there is lot’s of fast motion. You should use Blend fields and see if you get strange interlace ghosts. If you do, then you might have to change it to Interpolate fields but you’ll loose some vertical resolution.

    John

I was a little confused with the motion blur, thinking it might be a factor in smoothing out the missing fields going from 60 fields to 50 fields.

I understand you are saying that the motion blur field in property settings is a moot point if I’m not using motion blur as an effect on the time line.

    Got it!

    Thanks

Yup. The motion blur setting is only for when you add a motion blur envelope to the video bus track.
