Having trouble w/ Master/Affiliate clips. Good solutions?

June 8, 2005 at 9:37 amHello all. I have three tapes that are recording 3 separate camera angles all with matching/slaved timecode. What I want to do is log off of 1 tape, duplicate the clip twice (for a total of three clips). What I then want to do is change the reel number on the two duplicated clips to the corresponding camera angle. That way I can log once, but capture the three different angles when capturing. Every time I try to do this (change the reel number) the reel changes on all three clips. All clips are offline. How can I get it so that I can log one clip, but change the reel number on the two duplicated clips independent of the first clip? This will save me much needed time on an onsite & show the next day edit I am on right now. Here’s a more visual explanation:
I log reel 1Z (timecode 01:00:00:00 -> 01:01:00:00), I duplicate that clip twice in the browser, but change the reel numbers on the two duplicated clips to 1X and 1Y (timecode still @ 1:00:00:00 -> 01:01:00:00) while leaving the 1Z reel number clip in tact.
Thanks in advance.

This is clip family stuff tricky, it just takes lots of practice to decide on the path you wish to follow.
The language Apple decided to use is silly and the relationships are not clear. There is a very useful article on kenstone.net about the new family designations.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
