CamStudio is a simple and free screen recorder for pc. I used it to record a video of myself using coreldraw. Then I took that footage into vegas to edit. The footage seems not to play quite right, often lagging or making the footage around it lag.

CamStudio lets you use any codec installed on your computer to record the avi file. I tried a bunch of different ones, but they all seemed to have these editing problems. One file was only 20 MBs but behaved as if it it was many gigs with its lag and problems previewing correctly. I even tried saving the video with various codecs and then using media converter to convert the footage, and even took the footage into vegas and re-rendered it out.

Still always seem to have these problems. Has anybody done any computer screen recording? Need help.

I’m using CamStudio to pick up the screen grabs for a series of tutorials I’m producing, editing in Vegas 10e.

After testing a few different codecs, the one that works best for my purposes is the Matrox MPEG-2 I-frame HD at 1280×720, 50Mbps.
