  • Having to render when dragging Prores Proxy clips to Timeline

Posted by John Northrup on February 10, 2011 at 9:25 pm

I ingested clips from an EX1, and used the Sony plug-in in FCP to transcode them to MPEG2, since this seemed to be unavoidable. Then I transcoded them in compressor to Prores Proxy. Before I connected the project files to the proxy clips, I had been editing the MPEG2 clips. When I dragged the MPEG2 clips into the timeline, I never had to render them to watch them.

However, when I drag the Prores Proxy clips into the timeline, I always get a red “needs render” bar. Is this always the case? I assume I have some settings that are wrong, but I haven’t been able to sort it out.

    Thanks!

    1 of a few things,

    1) Sequence settings>CMD+0 (match your codec)

    2) If your on a laptop, check your energy saving setting make sure your on High Performance

    3) RT setting make sure you are not on safe RT by accident

    I hope that helps.

Is there a reason you’re not using Log and Transfer with the sony plugin?
