  • having probs with changing text with motion in fcp

I have realise that FCP doesn’t allow u to change text like avid does.
Is that a definate. If there is a way to change text Pls advise.

    Explaining my problem here…

Lets say i’ve created a text in ep1 of a show… Copying the donut timeline of ep 1 to ep 2, the text are copied over as well. (text are croped and motioned in FCP, while the text is created using motion) I realise that if i right click or crtl click, and click on open in editor, it allows me to change the text in motion. but saving it, with save option changes the text in fcp automatically. But if i save as, it does. Instead i have to go thru the hassle of importing the clip in fcp and then replacing the text and paste the attribute all over. Is there anyway of retaining ep 1 text and changing the text in ep 2 without affecting ep 1’s text. Pls advice,,, i hope u can understand my explaination….
    thanx
    Merv, new to fcp

As long as your texts are in different clips there is no problem. click the clip you want to edit control click to open in the editer. do your changes and when you switch back to fcp the media will change itself in a moment and you will see the changes to the text.

If I understand the question, sounds like you are making a classic FCP editing mistake.

If you just take any clip from Timeline “A” and put it in the Viewer to alter for use in Timeline “B”, you will alter (unintentionally) the original clip in Timeline “A”.

    CORRECT METHOD:
If you want to change (create) a NEW version of a title in Timeline “B”
(but KEEP the “old” original on Timeline “A”)…

You must first actually EDIT the “old” title to Timeline “B”,
THEN: double click that title BACK INTO THE VIEWER for updating.

This will only alter the “new” version on Timeline “B” and leave the original version unchanged on the first Timeline “A”.
