SCENARIO: I have imported four stills (PNG) with alpha channels, onto four separate video tracks in Vegas 5. Basically, I created an elevator, and, using pan/crop, the elevator doors slide open, revealing a video clip on a track below.

I would like to render the elevator sequence separately, so I can use it with different video clips, but when I render it out, apparently the alpha channels go bye-bye. I have tried UNCOMPRESSED AVI, as that seems to be the one that has a checkbox for rendering the alpha channel. But I have tried ALL the compositing modes, but none seem to work, as the video clips below never show through the “black” part.

Am I doing something wrong in the rendering options, or is it impossible to have an alpha channel in an AVI file created from several PNG files? Do I need to use the ‘compositing parent/child’ options?

    Thanks for your help!

Right-click on the rendered clip and under Properties > Media Change the alpha channel setting (most likely Premultiplied will work).

Alternatley, you could save your composited elevator sequence as a project, then drop it in another project as a nested .veg file which will preserve the alpha channel effect.
