    Hey guys, hope everyones´s ok.

Here is my problem. I am having a lot of trouble opening files in premiere pro. I have to make a presentation for a company where each employee makes a video telling something about their life. They all sent me the videos (.avi .3gp .wmv) and all the videos open fine in windows media player. All of them get imported, but some of them dont play, some of them are very shaky, some of them dont even have audio and some of them play fine…

Is my premiere lacking some kind of codec? Is there any other reason?

I really appreciate any response…thanks in advance

Installing codec packs on your computer often messes up the codecs Premiere Pro uses. If you have any sort of codec pack installed, get rid of it and restart the computer and you’ll probably have better luck.

Premiere does not support all formats, far from it. If these are just random files, of which you know nothing about framerate, you will likely run into trouble.

My advice would be to get a copy of TmpegEnc Xpress and convert them all to AVI uncompressed. The software has batch rendering which will make the process quite easy.

In the end, keep in mind that non matching frame rates are still going to cause jitter. If this is a project with a rather large budget, you can convert those that don’t match your timeline’s frame rate via After Effects and this plugin.

If the client mentions using some of their videos, I usually just double the quote instantly 🙂

(well, maybe not in the middle of winter…)
